IOT

Propose an idea, product, application or concept where an IoT Solution will be used to improve the everyday life of students.

You don’t necessarily have to find a new service idea; you can also tell us what is not working.

If you have already innovated and tried out something related to the challenge, you can also share that with us

Background

IoT (Internet of Things) will often be translated as the internet of things or objects. The concept is also known as industrial internet or the internet of everything. The idea remains the same, however, and is actually quite simple: any machine, equipment, object, property or city can be made more intelligent with the help of sensors, internet, programmes and analytics to name just a few. The goal of the challenge is to innovate, develop and test IoT-solutions that improve the everyday life of students. This could mean, for instance, improving the intelligence of a student residence or a community room, improving the interaction between the student and the university or then something completely different. The idea can also help businesses in offering better services to students. The main point is that the new solution is not just an application, but it will utilize different sensors and sources of data and bring them all together.

We will offer you Sonera M2M in a Box to make your brainstorming easier. The service consists of multi-sensored unit and user-friendly web portal. Together they enable monitoring location, motion, temperature, humidity from a distance. With this service you can develop and test new solutions. We will also offer you an access to Sonera IoT-platform which will help you to develop customised solutions.

Innovation and experiment support

We came up with a couple of examples to make your innovating and experimenting easier. The jury will appreciate for example innovations and solutions such as…

  • New ideas, solutions and services that make use of data obtained by sensors that benefit the students’ life (can be something else than the M2M box measures)
  • Idea, solution or service concept that enables better interaction between businesses and students
  • Idea, solution or service concept that makes use of new earning models

Which contest submissions are acceptable

  • descriptions of ideas or concepts
  • descriptions of problems or situations that can be improved
  • description of an idea/a solution that has already been tested
  • demos, finished applications, apps and products

What can you win by participating in the challenge

  • Your solution will see daylight, which means it will be implemented
  • Coaching and knowledge on how to process and develop new innovations
  • Sonera is interested in recruiting promising talents
